Acsension 2012

As the date of December 21, 2012 approaches, so many people have so many theories about the upcoming turn that our lives might take. There are theories that the earth will experience a spiritual evolution and we will all be vibrating at a higher more grateful and loving vibration, there are theories that the earth will change poles (from North to South) basically flipping over and causing flooding, earthquakes and widespread chaos. There are many more theories out there, but what I have come to conclude is that….no one really knows whats going to happen. If 12/21/12 comes and goes and we wake up and still have to go about our regular routines, what will happen? MY theory is to continue to live the way that I know best, while integrating positivity and love into the world. MY theory is to live in the NOW, so even if we have to go back to the mundane life,we are still open to the wonderful inbetween-ness (I made that up 🙂 )that makes life worth living, like our kids, a beautiful sunset, oceans, forests etc. Life is to be lived.Life is something that we should be grateful for and not just in cases of extreme peril or distress. Whatever happens, happens and we are all in the same boat. I am the eternal optimist and will always continue to strive to make my life as well as the lives of others better until the end of this physical life. So from my heart to yours I send much love and peace.

In the words of the prolific writer Bobby McFerrin;

DONT WORRY,BE HAPPY

DIY…Dryer Sheets

I love to have my clothes and my kids clothes smelling fresh out the dryer, but I hate to spend money on dryer sheets or fabric softeners. Try these DIY ideas to make sure your clothes are clean and smelling great, with minimal money spent!!

Idea 1

You can tear dryer sheets in half, thirds or fourths to keep your clothes smelling great and static free.

Idea 2

Use old wash cloths, add 1 to 2 tsps of fabric softener and use like regular dryer sheets.

Idea 3

Recycle old t-shirts but cutting them up in squares. Add a couple drops of your favorite essential oil like citrus for energy, rosemary and marjoram to reduce physical stress, lavender, basil, grapefruit and rosemary oils to improve concentration and memory. This is a fun way to do it and you can make your clothes benefit your spiritual and physical well-being.

DIY Shampoo !!

DIY products are a great way to save money, be healthy and have something you can make unique to suit your needs. You can add your favorite fragrances, essential oils and organic ingredients. I have found some recipes for making your own shampoo, and it will be free of the harsh mystery chemicals that modern shampoos are filled with. Here are a few ideas for healthy hair.

Start with :

Flip top container, or old shampoo bottle

1/4 cup  Liquid Castile Soap (Dr. Bronners is a wonderful Brand)

1/4 cup Distilled water

From here you can add the ingredients that you need for your hair needs:

Dry Hair:

1/4 cup aloe vera gel

1 teaspoon glycerin

1/4 teaspoon avocado oil or jojoba oil

Mix these ingredients in a bottle of your choice and shake well before using. Massage into scalp…let sit and rinse out

Normal Hair

Add 1 tsp Olive oil

Shake well and shampoo as usual

Scalp Stimulating

15 drops of peppermint

5 drops of spearmint

Shake well before each use…massage scalp and rinse

Baby Shampoo

1 to 2 drops of lavender

Add an additional 1/2 oz of water to dilute the initial recipe. Safe, mild and calming

There are many more ways to make shampoos such as adding honey, eggs, coconut,avocado and/or bananas for dry hair. Beer is a great volumizer, lemon juice for lightening, you can even pick  herbs or tea, boil them and add them to your mix. The sky is the limit on how you can DIY !!

Good Luck Earth Stars

FYI…Always be sure you have no allergies to these ingredients by doing a spot test on your skin.

DIY Cradle Cap Remedies for babies

I have a 9 week old son and he has a bad case of cradle cap. As all of you know, I LOVE DIY home remedies. I have found a couple of things that will work for you if you have this issue with your newest addition.

Try :

Breastmilk- This is a wonder cure that works on so many things. For cradle cap you express some milk, massage it into the scalp, comb through and wash away in the bath.

Coconut oil- Is a necessity to have in every home. It works for your (adults) insides as well as being a great moisturizer. For babies, massage into scalp, comb through and wash in the bath

Olive oil- Is also a great necessity to have in your home- Massage into scalp, comb through and wash in the bath

Shea butter-This is a great product that is essential to my household. You can use it for massages, moisturizing, healing cuts , sunburn ,eczema, psoriasis, cradle cap and so much more !!

Tea tree oil- Tea tree oil is a strong antiseptic and anti-fungal. I wouldn’t use it alone on a babies scalp but would add it to Shea butter (along with lavender for a calming scent) it works wonders !!

In various spiritual traditions, mandala may be employed for focusing attention of aspirants and adepts, as a spiritual teaching tool, for establishing a sacred space, and as an aid to meditation and trance induction. According to the psychologist David Fontana, its symbolic nature can help one “to access progressively deeper levels of the unconscious, ultimately assisting the meditator to experience a mystical sense of oneness with the ultimate unity from which the cosmos in all its manifold forms arises.” The psychoanalyst Carl Jung saw the mandala as “a representation of the unconscious self,” and believed his paintings of mandala enabled him to identify emotional disorders and work towards wholeness in personality.

In common use, mandala has become a generic term for any plan, chart or geometric pattern that represents the cosmos metaphysically or symbolically, a microcosm of the universe from the human perspective.

Attention LightWorkers !!

If you’re wondering what a Lightworker is or if you are one, I will explain. A Lightworker is a person that has an overwhelming need to do good on this planet. They are people who see the greater good and do what it takes to do it. They will have flaws because that is human nature but the heart and soul are light. You’ve all met someone whom you felt drawn to because of the feeling of calmness, love and,or light that surrounded them. These are the Lightworkers. To you Lightworkers I give my thanks and gratitude for the work you do every day just by being yourselves. To shine in a land of darkness can bring unwanted issues but staying light and bright will see you out the dark every time. Your shining light is encouraging to so many . So stay light ,stay true to who you are, remember your purpose, and stay powered by love.

You are appreciated.

From one Lightworker to another.

DIY…Shea Butter #1 !!

As my friends and close family know, I love DIY EVERYTHING !! To me it is much more fulfilling and you can make it uniquely you. I have started with my favorite head to toe product..Shea Butter !! Shea butter is the most wonderful thing because it heals you from head to toe. You can use it on hair, for eczema, cuts, burns, stretch marks, wind and sun burn and just to have beautiful, healthy moisturized skin. I make mine with the white Shea butter because its less oily and I melt it down slowly (So it still has big chunks in it). If  you melt it down too fast it will become grainy and all the nutrients will be melted away as well. I  make it unique to our family by adding almond oil, olive oil, and coconut oil  with a hand mixer and whipping it to spreadable heaven . My nine-year old has eczema so we add in aloe and tea tree oil and it combats this problem. For the baby we add in lavender and it smells almost like baby powder for baby dry skin. You can add in any kind of essential oil and get the mix whipped to your liking and for your skin type.

You can purchase Shea Butter from: Back2Africa.com

Shea Butter Benefits: all-natural African Shea Butter can be used to treat all of the following conditions: Dry Skin, Dry Hair & Scalp, Eczema, Infant Eczema, Psoriasis, Arthritis & Rheumatism, Wrinkle Prevention, Diaper Rash, Muscle Fatigue, Scar Minimization,
Skin Discoloration, Stretch Mark Prevention & Minimization and as a natural
shaving agent.

Almond Oil Benefits: It contains vitamin E in abundance. Vitamin E also known as  the food for our skin. Vitamin E is protects our skin from damaging ultraviolet lights. It prevents cell damage and  also fights with some skin disorders. Some studies have shown that vitamin E is helpful to reduce stress.

Olive Oil Benefits:EXTRA VIRGIN olive oil, from the first pressing of the olives, contains higher levels of antioxidants, particularly vitamin E and
phenols, because it is less processed.

Coconut Oil Benefits:Coconut oil can help to cure and prevent acne by encouraging a pH balance that  allows one’s natural oils to combat infection. The lauric acid in coconut oil  has anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties.  Thus, coconut oil can be used to  help heal infections, such as athlete’s foot and ringworm.  Coconut oil also aids in healing cuts and minor burns.

Aloe Benefits:Aloe gel, extracted from the plant’s leaves, is a natural moisturizer and  conditioner for the skin.  Place the gel directly on your skin or use a topical  ointment, cream or cleanser that contains aloe.  Although aloe vera does not  provide protection from the sun, it can enhance the use of sunscreen lotion.  Additionally, you can use aloe to get relief from insect bites, itches, rashes  and acne.

Tea Tree Oil Benefits: Tea tree oil can help treat skin infections, since it’s known to be a natural  antibiotic. It heals the skin, and can be treated on cuts, eczema, dermatitis,  blisters, boils, and cysts. It also can be successfully used to treat acne  problems as well. If you have any fungus or yeast, tea tree oil can treat it.  Tea tree oil has been useful in eliminating odors and athlete’s foot. Since it  is antibacterial and anti-fungal. You can also use tea tree oil to reduce pain.

Lavender Benefits : Lavender essential oil is especially popular as it has a pleasing scent and it  has antibacterial, antifungal properties and is so gentle, it can be used with  infants.

Breastfeeding…..in PUBLIC !!??!!

It has been 7 years since I had to breastfeed, so now that I’m doing it again here are some thoughts and dilemmas I go through on a daily basis if I have to leave the house !!

  • BreastFeeding ROCKS !!

I am an advocate of Breastfeeding but it seems lately that there have been so many stories about the backlash that breastfeeding mothers get when they are feeding their babies in public. I commend women that “whip it out” in public and get the job done. Me on the other hand I get shy about it and usually find my way to my car to “take care of business”. I am working on being better about feeding my son in public, and I will get to that point because in the end it’s not about what people think or how they feel about it,its your job as a parent to provide for your child.

At the hospital when I had Knight he latched right out of the womb. I was so relieved because he was only 4 lbs 8 oz. Within 3 weeks of his birth he had already gained a pound and that was with breastfeeding only.

  • The Benefits are astronomical

The don’t call Breast Milk liquid gold for nothing !! With Antibodies and nutrients perfect for newborns and preemies, it is the ultimate newborn food. The cells, hormones, and antibodies in breast milk protect babies from illness, and so many other great benefits(To many to list here ) . Check out WomensHealth.gov for more info

  • Bonding

To be able to go through the process of being born(and giving birth) and then be put on your breast has a calming effect for baby and mom…You start the bonding process right away. The first face they see is yours and the first nutrients they receive to start their lives ,you supply.

  • Benefits for US moms

Breastfeeding  saves so much money compared to buying formula. All you would need is time a breast pump and milk storage bags  !! Oh yea you will also need a breastfeeding wrap or a baby blanket for those times when you are in public !!

Breastfeeding to me just fits and it makes sense. Not everyone will be able or willing to breastfeed, but we should all respect and cheer on a mom who is doing what nature intended.
