DIY-Lighten your hair with Cinammon

How EXCITED was I when I found this phenomenal way to lighten my hair. I have been thinking about it for a while, and really only wanted to lighten it a few shades. This easy to follow recipe is simple and you can leave it on 4 hours to over night. Cinnamon is a know skin irritant so if you feel any tingling or burning you will want to wash it out, but I would also suggest adding shea butter or olive oil to your scalp and hairline to make sure the mixture doesn’t come in contact with these sensitive skin areas. Check out the recipe below and enjoy !! cinnamon

Materials Needed:

  • Your Favorite Conditioner
  • Ground Cinnamon
  • Plastic Processing Cap
  • Honey (optional; has additional bleaching and moisturizing properties)
  • Time (Depending on preference;anywhere from 4 hours-overnight)
  • Soft bonnet hair dryer/heating cap (optional)

Step One: Prepare Cinnamon Mixture

Add the conditioner, cinnamon, and honey (if desired) together in a plastic container. The amounts needed are determined by the amount of hair you have. Make sure that you have added at least 3 tablespoons of cinnamon to make sure you get even color rather than streaks of color. However, it is okay to add more. Mix the contents together with a plastic spoon as metal can react with your mixture. Cover the mixture while you wash your hair.

Step Two: Shampoo/Co-wash and Condition Hair as Usual

Nothing new here. Wash and condition your hair as you normally would. It’s best to detangle your hair here rather than saving it for later. Braid hair in sections to prevent tangling during application of cinnamon mixture.

Step Three: Apply Cinnamon Mixture to Sectioned Hair

Applying the mixture to sectioned hair ensures that you are coating all the strands. Your hands are the only tools you need for the application. Since you detangled prior to it should be easy for you to finger-comb the mixture through your hair. Re-braid the section and move on to the next section. Complete this step over entire head. Cinnamon is a known skin irritant so it may tingle for a few minutes but it will go away. If the tingling persists or becomes unbearable, rinse it out immediately.

Step Four: Processing Time

There are a few options for this step. You want to treat this mixture like you would a deep conditioning treatment. Place the plastic processing cap over your hair. You can either sit under a bonnet dryer/heating cap for 30 minutes or you can wrap a warm towel around your head for 30 minutes. Another option is to just let your body heat do the work for you for the entire processing times. Whatever option you choose, the mixture should stay in your hair for at least 4 hours. The longer the processing time, the more results you will see. Therefore overnight is the best option.

Step Five: Rinsing the Mixture Out

Make sure you rinse the mixture out completely. The pressure from running water straight from the bath tub faucet can help in rinsing the majority of the mixture from your hair.

Step Six: Enjoy Your New Color

While you shouldn’t expect your hair to go from brunette to blonde, you can expect hair that is 2 shades lighter than your original color. The more applications you do, the more change you will see.

DIY-Body Wash with coconut oil

I absolutely love coconut oil, so when i found a recipe that incorporates that into a body wash I was so excited !! It’s a process to make it, but it’s not really that hard. The end result is a phenomenally hydrating wash, that will leave you fresh and glowing. I use glycerin a lot in my DIY so it’s a great product to have on hand at all times. Check out this easy recipe:

You’ll need:

1 bar of soap (Dr Bronner’s Castile is great)

1/2 tbsp glycerin

4 cups water

1/2 cup pure coconut oil

Grate your soap of choice with a cheese grater

Put your grated soap in a large pot with the water, coconut oil and glycerin

Heat on medium heat until all of the soap is dissolved

When the soap is dissolved the water will look like murky dish water

Turn the heat off and cover overnight to set

When you return to your soap it will be very thick and jelly like, use a mixer or wisk to mix the soap to a smooth consistency

You can add up to two cups of water to get it to the consistency you like ( I added one extra cup of water for my liking)

You can then leave the soap for another 12 hours to ensure it is the right thickness

Use a funnel to put the body wash in an appropriate container (It makes a lot so you may need one container to store it and one to use in the bathroom )

This body wash does not lather like regular body wash because we have taken out the harsh sudsing agents but it still works well and it is healthy and great for your skin !!

It has been scientifically proved that this oil is able to correct the age related deficiencies in skin that causes dehydration and loss of skin elasticity. It is found to contain 700 mg per kilogram of tocopherols that is twice the amount found in olive oil. This oil is a natural antioxidant and can stimulate intracellular oxygenation. Essential Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is an awesome plant you can grow at home and that has so many benefits. When I was in Jamaica, (thinking I was a mermaid) ,aloe vera soothed my wicked sunburn. It heals all burns, and other skin infections. This all natural plant is easy to grow and it produces more plants that you can gift to friends and family.

Here is a list of  ideas you can use with aloe vera.

Aloe vera plants are available at almost every garden shop or nursery. Unless you live in area with a very mild climate, it’s best to leave your Aloe plant in the pot and place it near a window that gets a lot of sun.Pinch or cut off an inch or so of the tip of a leaf, and squeeze the gel from the leaf.

Skin irritations such as a heat rash, poison ivy or dry skin will benefit from aloe vera.

Use of the aloe vera gel on a consistent basis will allow dry skin to become more elastic and smoother. The gel is absorbed into the skin and will rehydrate the skin and help in rebuilding  skin cells

Eczema and psoriasis sufferers benefit from the use of aloe vera, which can lessen the severity of the conditions and stop itching

Apply aloe vera gel to fever blisters and genital herpes to reduce swelling and pain associated with the blisters. Normal precautions will still need to be taken for outbreaks of the herpes virus, as aloe vera will not cure the virus.

Used as a moisturizer on the face, aloe aides in reducing wrinkles and dark circles under the eyes. The facial skin will become smoother and younger looking with the use of aloe vera gel.

People also consume Aloe Vera internally to obtain a number of other Aloe Vera benefits. When taken internally, Aloe Vera can act as a gentle laxative, easing constipation.

Some people also consume Aloe Vera internally for the treatment of Crohn’s disease and other inflammatory bowel diseases due to its soothing anti-inflammatory properties. (Aloe Vera is believed to possess anti-bacterial properties as well.)

Some promising scientific studies seem to indicate that Aloe Vera (taken internally) can help lower cholesterol, fight cancer and stabilize blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes.

DIY Shampoo !!

DIY products are a great way to save money, be healthy and have something you can make unique to suit your needs. You can add your favorite fragrances, essential oils and organic ingredients. I have found some recipes for making your own shampoo, and it will be free of the harsh mystery chemicals that modern shampoos are filled with. Here are a few ideas for healthy hair.

Start with :

Flip top container, or old shampoo bottle

1/4 cup  Liquid Castile Soap (Dr. Bronners is a wonderful Brand)

1/4 cup Distilled water

From here you can add the ingredients that you need for your hair needs:

Dry Hair:

1/4 cup aloe vera gel

1 teaspoon glycerin

1/4 teaspoon avocado oil or jojoba oil

Mix these ingredients in a bottle of your choice and shake well before using. Massage into scalp…let sit and rinse out

Normal Hair

Add 1 tsp Olive oil

Shake well and shampoo as usual

Scalp Stimulating

15 drops of peppermint

5 drops of spearmint

Shake well before each use…massage scalp and rinse

Baby Shampoo

1 to 2 drops of lavender

Add an additional 1/2 oz of water to dilute the initial recipe. Safe, mild and calming

There are many more ways to make shampoos such as adding honey, eggs, coconut,avocado and/or bananas for dry hair. Beer is a great volumizer, lemon juice for lightening, you can even pick  herbs or tea, boil them and add them to your mix. The sky is the limit on how you can DIY !!

Good Luck Earth Stars

In various spiritual traditions, mandala may be employed for focusing attention of aspirants and adepts, as a spiritual teaching tool, for establishing a sacred space, and as an aid to meditation and trance induction. According to the psychologist David Fontana, its symbolic nature can help one “to access progressively deeper levels of the unconscious, ultimately assisting the meditator to experience a mystical sense of oneness with the ultimate unity from which the cosmos in all its manifold forms arises.” The psychoanalyst Carl Jung saw the mandala as “a representation of the unconscious self,” and believed his paintings of mandala enabled him to identify emotional disorders and work towards wholeness in personality.

In common use, mandala has become a generic term for any plan, chart or geometric pattern that represents the cosmos metaphysically or symbolically, a microcosm of the universe from the human perspective.
